Kym Barwell Grieve Gillett Architects

KYM BARWELL

Associate, Senior Architectural Technician

No matter the project type or scale, Kym prides himself on creating buildings that are compliant, accessible and are of high workmanship. He believes good design must take into account sustainability in the construction, as well as the impact on the surrounding environment.

A key member of our team of technicians, Kym has completed projects including major public infrastructure, education, healthcare, social justice, commercial and residential. He has been instrumental in delivering complex projects including the Pembroke Middle School pedestrian bridge, $495m T2T infrastructure and St Aloysius College and Heathfield High School vertical school developments. Kym applies his skills in 2D and 3D drafting and modelling, combined with his knowledge of construction technologies and materials, and environmentally sustainable buildings. He has a broad understanding of Australian standards and the NCC and brings a technical approach focused towards compliance, constructability and presentation.

Kym has a calm demeanour and maintains focus on resolving issues. With his understanding of construction methodology and technical requirements, he is able to offer advice and clear explanations to clients to facilitate smooth construction and minimise unnecessary costs that don’t contribute to the project outcome.
