COMMUNITY + SCHOOL SWIMMING POOL WITH REDUCED OPERATING COSTS

As the only public swimming pool in the City of West Torrens, the Thebarton Aquatic Centre is a key community asset, providing access to a lap pool, learner pool and hydrotherapy. The aquatic centre is also a unique feature of the Thebarton Senior College campus where it is co-located.

The refurbishment will bring the facility up to current standards, including roof replacement, new changerooms, reception, pre-swim showers, plant and access ramp into the main 25m pool. Non-slip flooring, expanded concourse area and acoustic treatment vastly improve amenity, safety and comfort, while flexible-use classrooms serve the pool and adjacent Thebarton Senior College. The replacement of the metal roof with an SIP roof and strategically placed polycarbonate panels provides an integrated roof system with insulation and abundant yet indirect natural light to minimise glare on the water surface.

With a desired scope beyond the budget, we undertook upfront investigation of the most effective use of funds. A master plan approach devised a staged plan of works to allocate the available funds to required compliance and repair works and DfE standards, setting the stage for future upgrades. Moving the toilets and changeroom location out of line with the pool future proofs the centre for further expansion.
