ST MARY'S COLLEGE BOYLAN BUILDING

ST MARY'S COLLEGE BOYLAN BUILDING REFURBISHMENT
In 2016, Grieve Gillett Architects were engaged for the refurbishment of the State Heritage-listed Boylan Building for administrative offices, ICT / Design Teaching Areas and a new entry pavilion. The project involved the complexity of a new addition and internal re-modelling within an existing heritage building. In addition, the multi-purpose nature of the spaces meant that the design team had to consult and communicate with several teaching areas staff, as well as two major administrative teams in the School.
The new entry pavilion provides the College with a new frontage, enhanced security and clear wayfinding. The pavilion also provides integrated and seamless equitable access into the building. Cladded in a red zinc profile, the colour echoes existing hues within in heritage fabric and acts as a bridge between the old and the new Veritas Centre building across the lawns.
The existing internal structure provides an intuitive division between administrative and learning areas. The location of the administration offices connects via existing circulation to other staff offices east of the Boylan Building. While to the south, the configuration of the IT and ICT hub provides maximum flexibility within the footprint of the existing building. It acts as digital teaching suites, provides access to tech support, houses the school’s digital printers and a technology hub. Clever integration of drop-down blinds provides the additional function of a photography studio.
