ST ALOYSIUS PRIMARY SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT

FIRST OF ITS KIND IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA - VERTICAL PRIMARY SCHOOL
This project demonstrates our expertise in delivering a new four-storey primary school building within an established campus — the first of its kind in South Australia. The proposed vertical primary school provides the College with a contemporary educational facility that both honours the history of the site and the legacy of the Sisters of Mercy, while addressing the evolving needs of modern education, including child safety, supervision, and flexible learning environments.
To support a growing student population, the design includes a dedicated Music Room with an adjacent outdoor performance space, a STEM room, multipurpose arts space, flexible learning areas, and wellbeing zones such as Sensory and Quiet Rooms. A rooftop play space, along with activity areas including a flexible foyer suited for community events, ensures every part of the building supports dynamic, inclusive learning.
The land-locked nature of the site presented early challenges, prompting GGA to explore a vertical school model during the initial master planning and feasibility stages. This approach maximised the use of the compact site while enhancing outdoor play and learning opportunities.
We are now working in collaboration with Hayball to deliver this innovative learning facility. The tight program has required the consultant team to work with exceptional efficiency to meet both budget and construction parameters. A fast-tracked design process and agile value management have been key to aligning with the expectations of the Project Manager and Client.
