This large family home is built on an important heritage site with a mature garden and creek, which has heavily influenced the design of the new house. The house is deliberately set at the rear of the site, with a simple clear floor plan to give the creek and large trees the prominence they deserve. The elegant timber gables formed in a grid provides a consistent design with generous family spaces. To suit modern family life, smaller zones have been designed to fit within the broader context, creating various entertaining spaces.
The fall of the block allows for a sunken family lounge area so that the young family can be in close proximity but not overrun the main living space. Windows overlooking the kitchen courtyard provide light and views of mature trees, while cleverly positioned screens provide privacy between neighbours. On paper this is a large home on a large block, however the design hides its large area through clever planning and positioning.
