WEST PARKLANDS BRIDGE CONCEPT

WEST PARKLANDS BRIDGES CONCEPT

Grieve Gillett Architects was commissioned to design a bridge over Park Terrace to connect the Bowden Village Development to the West Parklands.

Sited close to the Port Road intersection, the bridge significantly improves the pedestrian and cyclist safety of the rail and road crossings, while maximising exposure of the Bowden gateway statement.

Firstly, our design team prepared a desktop search of bridge examples and design approaches with individual investigative summaries for the Renewal SA’s consideration and direction. We then designed 3 options, each deliberately unique in its architectural form and expression.

The function of each bridge connects to the rail corridor cycle way, and the broad deck provides dedicated cyclists and pedestrians pathways, including unassisted disabled access. All three options provide weather protection across the bridge deck, throwing screens, integrated functional lighting and feature lighting, resting points and drinking fountains.
