MORTLOCK PARK CLUBROOM REDEVELOPMENT

REFURBISHMENT OF SUBURBAN SPORTS GROUND CLUBROOMS WITHIN STATE HERITAGE AREA
The Gil Langley building serves as the clubrooms for the baseball, football and cricket clubs that call Mortlock Park home. Sited within the State Heritage Area of Colonel Light Gardens the sensitive context presented challenges, but also opportunities for the upgrading and expansion of the existing building to bring amenities into line with the AFL Preferred Facility Guidelines.
Extensive consultation with Council and the sports clubs established a project brief prescribing the addition of a new changeroom block to the east. Reconfiguration of the existing building ground floor facilitated incorporation of unisex changerooms and toilets, Umpires changerooms, accessible toilets, integration of a new lift and adjustments to the lower and upper floors to increase spatial efficiency and spectator amenity.
The existing structure was carefully analysed to minimise structural alterations and manage costs within a constrained budget. Integration of additional changerooms, cricket practice nets and grounds storage adjacent the existing building reduced clutter across Mortlock Park, consolidating facilities while optimising club and community benefits.
