ST JOHN THE APOSTLE JUNIOR PRIMARY DEVELOPMENT

ENGAGING, AGE-APPROPRIATE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT TO CMOPLETE THE FIRST STAGE IN A VISIONARY MASTER PLAN
The first stage in a visionary master plan for St John the Apostle Parish School, the new Junior Primary Development will offer an engaging, age-appropriate learning environment to begin students’ school journey. Set around a central breakout space, the eight classrooms have direct access to external learning courtyards and dedicated junior play spaces away from the boisterous main oval.
We embraced the sloping site as an opportunity not a challenge, integrating challenge play and universally accessible gentle pathways within the new landscape typology. The new development steps up the site, providing a dynamic interior environment while minimising the need for cut and fill intervention to stabilise the sandy soil in the beachside location.
We navigated the school’s purchase of an adjacent laneway, working through a variety of design options until the agreement was finalised. The laneway provides the school with a secondary entry point for junior primary, easing traffic congestion and allowing after-hours access to the multi-purpose breakout space for community events.
