PORT ADELAIDE DOCK ONE MASTER PLAN

PORT ADELAIDE DOCK ONE MASTER PLAN PROPOSAL
Renewal SA released six separate harbour side land parcels in Port Adelaide for Expression of Interest. Grieve Gillett Architects (GGA) teamed with developer Hindmarsh in preparing a response for the Dock One site which included the existing 1970s Marine and Harbours tower block.
GGA had previously been involved with the Edgewater development in the western arm of the harbour. The Edgewater development included three (3) five storey apartment blocks with a total of one hundred and sixty five (165) apartments plus seventy five (75) two and three storey townhouses.
In preparing a response GGA undertook site and context analysis reviewing adjacent existing building forms, street views, vehicular and pedestrian movement patterns and historical data. GGA proposed linked three and five storey apartment buildings to the rear of the site orientated for passive environmental performance while addressing harbour views and reinforcing existing street frontages to the south and east. Existing lower scale fabric to the west around the Port Dock Brewery was addressed with two and three storey townhouses. Orientation reinforced original street alignments and
framed harbour views back into the existing streets. The harbour front was restored with boardwalk and public spaces activated by food concessions, cafés and urban play spaces.
