PORT ADELAIDE VIADUCT STATION

PORT ADELAIDE RAIL STATION UPGRADE
The Port Adelaide Viaduct Station, part of the Metropolitan Rail Network required significant remediation works to extend the life of the structure. The platform shelters and fencing required renovation and the lighting upgraded to current standards.
Grieve Gillett Architects (GGA) was engaged to design and document the station infrastructure including platform shelters, seating, fencing, lighting and signage. The platform shelter is a cantilevered roof with columns at the rear of the platform to maintain clear platform access. The new shelter protects passengers from rain and weather while remaining open, light and transparent, responding to Crime Prevention through Environmental Design principals the shelter presents a minimum opportunity for vandalism. The base material finishes are extremely robust and may be blasted clean without requiring re-painting.
Lighting to the shelter is integrated into the signage beam which acts as a light shade, shielding the eyes of the passengers opposite and drivers by its deep inverted angle mounting. The station now provides seating for 16 passengers on the up line and 24 passengers on the down line, with station identification and other statutory, safety and information signage compliant to Trans-Adelaide standards.
