VEALE GARDENS CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

VEALE GARDENS, PARK 21 WALYU YERTA CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
Grieve Gillett Architects (GGA) and WAX Design (WAX) were engaged by Adelaide City Council (ACC) to undertake the Veale Gardens Concept Development project.
Veale Gardens is located south of the city in Walyu Yarta (Park 21) and is the only formal garden within the Park Lands. The demolition of the Conservatory building created an opportunity for ACC to review the function of the gardens and develop the Adelaide Park Lands Management Strategy 2012-2025.
The underlying objective of the project was to develop a conceptual vision for “Vibrant Veale”, in line with the Adelaide Park Lands Management Strategy 2015 - 2025.
A collaborative and consultative methodology was undertaken to inform the outcomes of the project, including:
• site analysis - site observations and site visits with
• desktop research - review of background documents and precedent studies
• consultation process with relevant staff from Adelaide City Council via workshops
• collaborative design process with project team
The outcomes from this project will assist the Council and Adelaide Parklands Authority (APLA) to progress with the enhancement of Veale Gardens to be a contemporary urban destination within the Park Lands setting that is iconic, responsive, inclusive, accessible, enriching, diverse and resilient.
