WHOLE-OF-SITE SPATIAL PLANNING AND WAYFINDING REVIEW
The State Library of South Australia is the primary custodian of South Australia’s history – it collects our past, provides access to our collections and informs our future. As a key collecting institution within the North Terrace Cultural Precinct, Grieve Gillett Architects in collaboration with Working Images were engaged to undertake a whole-of-site spatial planning and wayfinding review of the State Library.
The project considers the use of existing public spaces, both indoors and outdoors, to identify opportunities for a coherent and intuitive wayfinding that will increase visibility and enhance the various services offered by the State Library. It aims to activate public areas where required and create hierarchy of spaces that respond to distinct user groups and considers opportunities for exhibiting the State Library’s collections.
The project was undertaken through an extensive consultation and research process by the project design team, and has been adopted by the State Library of South Australia for staged implementation.
