REVISIONING OF A FORMER SCHOOL CAMPUS INTO A VIBRANT MIXED-USE PRECINCT
The Parks site was originally a high school constructed in the late 1970s to provide a social benefit to an area traditionally lacking in amenity. The closure of the school resulted in the buildings being occupied by myriad government and community groups and the vast open spaces being underutilised. The SA government via the agency of Renewal SA is in the process of developing the site into a mix of residential and commercial uses.
Grieve Gillett Architects (GGA) developed a master plan for the site and oversaw the first stage of demolition of most buildings, redevelopment of three retained core facilities, construction of a new football facility for the FFSA and construction of a road network to open up the site.
The final stage is the sub division of remaining land for residential development along with a prime site for a mixed use building fronting the newly created town square. GAA were engaged by Renewal SA to create an Urban Design Guide to accompany the market release of the land. The guide encapsulates general principles for urban infill along with identification of opportunities, site specific requirements and aspirations for the integration of this site with existing urban fabric based on the philosophy of the master plan.
