The redevelopment of the Copper Coast Sports & Leisure Centre features two main buildings linked by a double height ‘arcade’. The new building houses 3 all-purpose courts with changerooms, wet areas, clubroom facilities, a creche, 5 meeting and consulting rooms and a large weights room.
The refurbished building contains a main all-purpose court, tiered seating, classes and cardio rooms, mezzanine lounge, 2 squash courts and a Gymboree/ bounce area.
The buildings are joined by a new entrance that extends from the northern to southern entrances and contains a café, administration offices, lounging and meeting spaces and a double height void to visually connect the facility.
Innovative artificial lighting strategies incorporate elements of wayfinding and a sense of drama to the journey through the spaces like with the ‘illuminated portals’ that players and spectators pass through to get to the main stadium.
The Centre plays an important role in community and recreational life of the residents of Kadina and the broader Yorke Peninsula community, therefore operations were maintained during the works within the original recreation centre and following handover of the new building, a decant operation freed the occupied centre to commence the refurbishment of the existing facility
