The new cellar door at Petaluma Wines in the Adelaide Hills has received a Commendation for Commercial Architecture at the South Australian Architecture Awards. The project was also recognised as the Best Large Cellar Door in Gourmet Traveller WINE Australia’s Best Cellar Doors.
The jury said, “this project is a good example of the re-purposing of an existing small rural residential building into a new Cellar Door showcasing Petaluma Wines within a minimal budget and tight development constraints.
The representation of Petaluma’s three regions in the rammed earth entrance statement combined with the timeline located on the windows present the visitor with an insight into the brand heritage. The re-use of salvaged timber riddling racks in a variety of novel ways combined with a series of exceptional themed photographic prints creates a charming environment for whiling away a lazy afternoon sampling some of the region’s best produce.”
We agree this is a special place, and hope visitors will enjoy experiencing the vines, earth, process and ultra-premium wines at their next visit to Petaluma Cellar Door.
