Drink Dine Design nominated for excellence in installation design

February 12, 2019

The 2018 Drink Dine Design Finalists’ exhibition and installation is now showing at the Adelaide Airport in the main concourse until 7 November.

For the second consecutive year, Grieve Gillett Andersen has collaborated with the JamFactory to design and construct an installation for the annual Drink Dine Design Emerging Designer Award.

The JamFactory is an incubator for creativity, experimentation and development. A place where emerging designer talent is born. It has welcomed emerging designers with open arms for over 40 years, giving them a place to nurture their talents and launch a successful career in design here in Adelaide. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the JamFactory for the second year through this project.

Made up of 1,500 KINK Oil Bottle packaging tubes, careful consideration of its environmental impact has been at the forefront of the design process.

“Continuing with our ‘zero waste’ approach to the project last year, where we used JamFactory’s cardboard packing boxes, this time we have used cardboard cylinders to design a multi-level platform, where the materials can be reused afterwards to package the KINK oil bottles made at the JamFactory,” says Project Architect, Tom Doull.

“By employing an everyday material to create a visual impact, we draw people’s attention to the exhibition through the patterns made by repetition, while at the same time providing a subtle backdrop that puts the finalist’s design pieces on centre stage.”

The installation will transform into a pop up gin bar with Applewood Distillery at the Hot 100 Wines SA Awards in December at the Queen's Theatre, before being dismantled and completely reused by the JamFactory.

Demonstrating our commitment to site and brief specific design, the modular construction methods we have employed will allow the installation to respond appropriately to two unique sites and integrate its two functions as both tasting bar and an exhibition of the latest contemporary Australian craft and design.

Stay tuned for the next iteration of the Drink Dine Design installation in 2018.
