WORK IN PROGRESS AT KADINA

20 September 2017

Grieve Gillett Andersen

Phase 1 works of the Copper Coast Sport & Leisure Centre Redevelopment are well underway in Kadina on the Yorke Peninsula. With second fix services, linings and finishes well advanced and the sprung timber sports flooring installed to the main three court basketball stadium.

During the construction, the original recreation centre has remained fully operational and following the completion of Stage 1, the refurbishment of the existing facility will commence.

The Copper Coast District Council had prepared a concept reference design for alterations and additions to the existing recreational centre. In 2015, Grieve Gillett Andersen joined contractor Unique Urban Built to analyse the reference design and associated room data sheets identifying deficiencies in spatial relationships and effective improvements to functionality. With UUB, GGA were engaged to prepare a revised design that proposed a simplified, but functionally improved concept design.

The redevelopment includes three new multipurpose undercover courts, relocation of the gymnasium, new reception, café, child and vacation care facilities, resurfacing of the Tennis & Netball courts and light towers, and renovation of the existing court into a show court with permanent seating.

The Council’s vision is “for the facility to become a modern recreational indoor centre for the region and adjoining education precinct. This redevelopment will bring expertise (State teams and coaches training and running clinics) to our region and give families an opportunity to compete in a facility equal to any that Adelaide has to offer. “

The Copper Coast Sport & Leisure Centre plays an important role in community and recreational life of the residents of Kadina and the broader Yorke Peninsula community. As works advance, Council, the centre operator and the community are increasingly keen to occupy and use the facility, and the project team are actively working to maintain and ensure timely project delivery.
