With care-giving at its core, the project breathed new life into the heritage-listed Connery House, a former convent that has long been a pillar of healthcare in the community. The renovation embraced the building’s history while crafting modern spaces for an obstetrics and gynaecology consulting practice.
The scope included flexible consultation rooms designed for privacy and acoustics, a welcoming reception area, amenities and a versatile staff hub with a kitchenette and meeting room overlooking the Calvary Hospital grounds. While integrating upgraded building services, the ingenious contemporary drop ceiling preserves the integrity of the heritage ceilings. An understated materials and colour palette allows heritage features such as the timber panelling, parquetry flooring, leadlight and architraves to be the focal points.
The design approach transformed underutilised spaces into a fit-for-purpose healthcare facility, with flexible services allowing for the future progress of technology and clinical service delivery. As one of a series of projects in collaboration with Calvary Hospital, Grieve Gillett Architects continued the building’s legacy, aligning heritage with current needs in the service of care and community.
