ESTHER CHEW AWARDED 2017 EMERGING ARCHITECT PRIZE

14 June 2017

Grieve Gillett Andersen

We congratulate senior architect Esther Chew on being awarded this year’s South Australia Emerging Architect Prize.

Since joining Grieve Gillett Andersen two years ago, Esther has undertaken an important role in the delivery of the Anzac Centenary Memorial Walk on Kintore Avenue, the recently completed Port Lincoln Aquatic Centre and is currently leading education, cultural and community centre projects.

Esther studied architecture at the University of East London and University of Adelaide and also has achieved a Masters in Development Studies (UNSW). She is passionate about integrating social and cultural histories in place making. She possesses an underlying pragmatic sensibility and a critical eye for detail that enables her to approach each project with a balanced perspective as well as being able to explore new concepts and solutions.

The jury noted, ‘As a contribution through leadership we think that Esther’s demonstration of a successful career, raising children, contributing to pro-bono projects and being able to lead high profile outcomes is a worthy exemplar to other young practitioners.’

The Prize recognises new members of the profession who have made a substantial contribution to architecture in the state. GGA is proud of Esther for her achievement as well as Candy Aung, who was awarded the Prize in 2015, and all our professional staff who contribute their time to the broader industry through teaching, advocacy and involvement in various organisations.
