Unique Urban Built engaged Grieve Gillett Architects to design a new corporate head office and associated store on a vacant site in Mawson Lakes. The design brief was for a two-storey office building that presented as a single storey building, with double height internal void and an architecture domestic in feel and without corporate reference.
Construction was to be domestic in nature to contain the costs, and the store as a simple industrial Colorbond® shed with minimal additional facade treatments to integrate with the adjacent main office and to form a cohesive site development. The confined triangular site presented challenges for building configuration, vehicle access, delivery access and parking. Development encumbrances over the site required nominated third party design review to satisfy compliance requirements.
Grieve Gillett Architects proposed a two-storey office with open double height internal void and large steep overhanging roof effectively reducing the building scale and complying with the UUB design requirements. The design solution met the brief’s domestic scale requirements, but subtly describes the commercial function of the building. Treatments to the adjacent Store building were minimal to achieve the integrated presentation of both buildings.
