PROJECT TEAM
Established in 1940, the Lady Gowrie Childcare Centre in Thebarton was originally housed in a large adapted residence and was complemented by a separate specifically designed facility built in the 1970s.
Grieve Gillett Architects has a long working relationship with Gowrie SA designing numerous child care facilities at Goodwood, Parkside and Underdale modelled on Lady Gowrie philosophy principles. We were engaged to provide architectural and interior design services to update and refurbish facilities in the existing 1970’s childcare centre.
Lady Gowrie’s vision is to provide education and care for children, professional development and learning for educators working in early childhood services, and programs which are responsive to the community. Working with Gowrie SA staff we modified and updated facilities to better suit Lady Gowrie’s integrated children’s programs, community programs, adult professional learning and training programs.
Spaces were subtly modified, artificial lighting improved, internal colours refreshed, furniture and joinery renewed to create and support opportunities for all members of the Gowrie community (families, children, staff, board and local community) to work together as learners.
